In my humble opinion EELS are the best band in the world. Essentially consisting of front man, genius singer songwriter, E (aka Mark Everett). E's father was a quantum physicist who authored "Everett's Many Worlds Theory" in the 1950's, Everett inspired countless science fiction books, movies and Star Trek episodes with the concept of parallel universes. However E preferred music (lucky for us). He's had a tough time: his family seem like they were pretty disfunctional, his father was too busy to be bothered, E was a drug addict at 14, at 19 he found his father dead at home, his troubled sister committed suicide in 1996, and his mother died of lung cancer soon after. EELS Album "Electro Shock Blues" was cathartic for E and inspired by all this sadness. I have seen EELS lots of times in the UK (probably 6 now !) and on most of these occasions I have been able to chat with E, who is a charming, witty and very down to earth guy (with eyes you could dive into ... sigh!). Below you'll find a selection of pics from more recent EELS gigs, including the recent Tour of Duty. Enjoy!
Breaking News: EELS are currently hard at work on the next EELS album in an undisclosed location. The album is due out in 2005 - and hopefully they will tour again! However, 2004 will see the release of several brand new EELS tracks as part of film soundtracks, tribute albums and collections.
