The Quick and the Dead

Henriksen starred with Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman in the much praised THE QUICK AND THE DEAD for TriStar Pictures. Henriksen portrayed the flamboyant, world-class gunslinger, "Ace Hanlon." The film's director, Sam Raimi, comments, "Lance is a whirlwind of talent, a brilliant performer who goes beyond acting. He becomes his character completely, leaving no trace of his former self, making something of every moment on screen."           Copyright Wilderness Productions 2001

What Lance says about his role as Ace:

"In the script it had this guy called Ace Hanlon.  They just had me like walking down a street and I just turn and fire this shot, put a hole in a card that a little girl is holding.  Before I went there I said 'I really gotta work on something.'  I got a horseman buddy of mine and we worked on that backflip off a horse.  I got on a horse and then flipped off backwards and shot under the belly of the horse as i fell.  It was really a neat thing and it took a month to figure it out, to make it work.  And then when i got there, i already had hair extensions put in my hair, dyed my hair black and put on a moustache and goatee- i had this whole character going.  Sam first just looked at me - he didn't even recognise me from when he had hired me.  And i came for the first reading and i said, 'Sam, this is Ace Hanlon, don't worry about it.' And he sort of begrudgingly said 'All right.'  Then the wardrobe girl came with the best wardrobe I'd ever seen in my life.  It was beautiful!  And I put that on and Sam Raimi went , 'Whoa - that's it!'  I got one of the stuntmen to pull a big white horse out and I said 'Sam I wanna show you something.'  And i did the flip off the back of the horse, shot under the belly and he said, 'That's it, that's in the movie!'  All it meant is that by the time i go to do a movie, whether i have five days or a month, i wanna come so loaded and ready to work with so many ideas that if he had shot down fifty percent of them, i still would have more than i would have had if i'd just walked on and expected it to be spoon-fed to me."   Copyright Videoscope Winter 2002

Fan Review below:

THE QUICK AND THE DEAD: Sam Raimi's new age western starred Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman (Great Villian), and Russell "Gladiator" Crowe. Lance plays gunfigther/card shark 'Ace' Hanlon, whose character faces off early in the film with Hackman. It's a brief but great scene, and makes you wish Lance had received more screen time. Exciting, action-packed in the Raimi style.
